How do I submit an article for Smileypedia?

Regular members are already able to make comments and edit any of the existing articles right away, once they have joined.

However if you wish to submit an article for inclusion in Smileypedia, then you will need to note me.

What sort of things can I write about?

Here's a list of things you can and can't write about, to make things easier.

Things you CAN write about:

  • Artists,
  • Styles,
  • Original smiley websites,
  • Smileys for chat programs,
  • Forum smileys,
  • Smiley add-ons (E.g Smiley Central and SweetIM)

Things you CAN'T write about:

  • Compillation smiley websites,
  • Smiley-making programs/generators,
  • General art websites,
  • Dolls,
  • Kaoani.

These all fall outside of the scope of Smileypedia.

If in doubt though, just ASK ME.

Other Criteria:

  • If you are part of a commercial smiley endeavour then you ARE NOT permitted to write about yourself. This is done to prevent article bias and stop advertising and "spruiking"
  • Artists/emoticonists are DISCOURAGED from writing articles about themselves, for the same reasons as listed above.
  • Any artist featured here is expected to have been making smileys/emotes for a few years, and also to have a portfolio of 50+ smileys/emotes behind them. This way there will be enough things to actually write an article about.

General DO's and DONT's:

Please DON'T just post a page full of smileys. The whole point of Smileypedia is to discuss the artist and their work.

Please DO ask the artist for permission first, even if they don't require it. Just out of politeness.

But I'm not a writer... :(

That's okay, we have a cheatsheet with ideas and suggestions to help you get started on your article.

Also, all of the articles are submitted as drafts to our private section first. Then they are proof-read before they are made public.

The Nature of a wiki

The power of a wiki lies in the fact that many people are able to contribute to an article, thus improving it. So by its very nature it is always expanding, evolving, and improving.

Therefore if you are someone who is easilly offended or sensitive about having their work altered, changed, corrected or modified, then perhaps you should carefully consider whether you wish to publish your article here or not.

Thanks,

Brad.
